STRANGE Problem with file types coming from PC

Hello all,

I've got a strange problem with image files coming from PC's. A coworker creates TIFF files on a PC which are transferred to a Mac network server where AppleScripts are run on them from my machine. The problem is that while most of the files, which have a ".tif" extension are identified as QuickTime TIFF files (as per File Exchange), a few show up as generic PC text files. The weird part is that it occurs in a regular pattern: every 14th file is not properly typed. The AppleScript has a routine which checks the file type using the Finder's "info for" command and makes sure the file has the proper extension (to ensure our Mac users are getting it right), and the TEXT identification is breaking it. Any ideas why this is happening or how to force the proper type?

John J.
