In case you are interested: Did you know that you can just drag messages to
a folder in the Finder from Outlook Express/Entourage? Outlook
Express/Entourage saves the email as a text file that holds the entire
message (including attachments). I have been using this method to back up
my email for ages; and I love it.

You can use a utility like FileTyper to change the creator to BBEdit so that
you can use BBEdit's wonderful grep searches to find emails in your archive.
And to get an attachment out, you just drag the text file over StuffIt
Expander. And if you want to put the email back into Outlook
Express/Entourage, you just change the creator back to Outlook
Express/Entourage and drag the message back into the program. Nifty. :)

I know we're straying off topic here, but thought this interesting.

I drug Jolly Roger's message to the desktop, from Eudora pro. A new file was created, looks like a Eudora file. Seems to me that could lend it's self to all sorts of backups, transfering and filing.
