If you want to give OSA Menu a try, its worth getting the full version (also
free) from
http://www.lazerware.com/software.html.
It's a convenient and unobtrusive way to make your scripts accessable, and
doesn't argue with apps that have their own script menu.
However, if (like me) you are a keyboard shortcut junkie, there are some
issues to consider... Hot key combinations that are assigned to OSA menu
scripts have to include the 'command' key, which can be somewhat limiting,
and scripts triggered by a keyboard shortcut have an unfortunate tendency to
run twice. For these reasons I now use OneClick (from www.westcodesoft.com)
to run my old OSA menu scripts - and a whole lot more. It's a fabulous
utility that takes effortless automation far beyond the reach of
AppleScript, and it's on half-price offer for less than 30 bucks at the
moment (dammit).
But if you just want to run scripts, and you are happy to select them from
the pull down menu using that slidy thing with a wire coming out of the
front (dang, what was it called - oh yeah, a mouse, that's it), OSA menu
will do everything that you need.
For both OSA Menu and OneClick, I suppose that OS X compatibility will
become an issue. However, as 90% of the apps I use are still stuck in the
'classic' dark ages, I don't see myself being troubled by this any time
soon. In fact, I'm rather enjoying the quiet cul-de-sac that OS 9.x has
become, and am happy to let brave pioneers like Mr Paul Berkowitz negotiate
the hectic and only partially-paved highway of OS X.
