I don't like playing list mom, I don't want to appear insensitive to what
has happened (I work at a newspaper, I know all about it), and I really
don't want to start a flame war over this. But I do subscribe to 5 different
mailing lists, including this one. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way
or I'm just the jerk that's decided to speak up, but I subscribe to the list
to discuss Applescript issues. I have enough email coming to me every day
without having to sift through a pile of off-topic messages. If I want to
spend yet another day in discussions of world terrorism et al, there are no
shortage of people with whom I can have a face to face discussion.

One mailing list I subscribe is extremely strict, with some very clear rules
about acceptable content including: "It doesn't matter how important you
think it is -- if it's off-topic, it's not appropriate for the list." It
seems drastic, but I appreciate the fact that the list mom makes sure that
the busy people who use the list only have to read what they subscribed for.

As for hacking and Applescript viruses - half the time I can't get a script
to run consistently and reliably when I want it to - I'm not all that
worried about a terrorist using it.

Sorry if I offend, and if you feel so inclined to flame me over this, don't
expect a reply...
