There I go again, claiming that stuff works without actually trying it. I've
actually done this now, and it turns out there are two caveats:

First, you'll probably have to rebuild your desktop before the changes will
actually "take".

Second (and this is the really important one), you'll have to give your
specialized applet its own creator code. (Change both the creator code on the
file and the signature in the BNDL resource.) It seems the system can't really
distinguish between different apps with the same creator, so if you don't
change your special one, then either it will work just like an ordinary
droplet, or every droplet you have will only accept disks!

P.S.: Yes, the effect you get is that the droplet won't highlight unless the
thing is a disk.
