That's OK, Lorin. I was wondering when that was coming after your recent
provocative question here. But speaking about 'end runs', it looks like
AppleScript has done an end run here around REALBasic with AppleScript
Studio. I suspect it will be considerably lighter weight than REALBasic and
you will still have a market, albeit smaller than before.
I'm not sure. Looking at the screen shots, it appears to be a
Interface Builder related tool. Since it's therefore Mac OS X only,
and does not appear to address any of the issues raised by my
previous question, I'm not that worried. You'll note that "a new tool
that lets me create applications using AppleScript" was not on
anyone's list.
AppleScript is a great technology! We love being able to add
AppleScripts to REALbasic projects. I use AppleScript often for tiny
little doo-dads.
REALbasic can do SO much more than AppleScript can, and can compile
for Classic and Windows, I think AppleScript Studio will make a great
addition to many users toolboxes. We will embrace it 100%. You will
be able to utilize these in some way from within REALbasic by the
time it ships.
I could be wrong, though. Maybe in a year I will be out of job,
wishing I heeded your words and brushed up on my bartending skills.
