Well, as of this morning there will be a way. Although it's fantastically
easy to download the Script Menu and drag it to the menu, 95% of users will
never think of doing it.
I hope and trust that in every later version of OS X, the Script Menu will
automatically appear in the menu bar. THEN 75% of users WOULD try it out,
I'm quite sure, especially with all the nifty sample scripts Sal has put in
there already. I would bet that at least half of those who tried it out
would see how fantastic it is and would go on using it, and be on the
lookout for new scripts to use there.
With one stroke, that could raise use of scripts from its present (guess -
2% or so?) user base not just to 5% (which putting in the Script Menu might
do) but to 30+ %, i.e. 6000% of what it is now. Think about that for a
minute.
So - Apple staff (Chris) - is it intended that from OS 10.2 (or even 10.1.1)
onwards Script Menu will be installed with the OS, or does someone thing
that creates unwanted clutter or fear or something? It really would be the
very best way, IMO, to introduce users to AppleScript. (And I'm sure that
the AppleScript team wholeheartedly agrees. So the real question is - do
bigger bosses still need to be convinced that this would be a Good Thing?)
