Get modification date of web page

Hi All:

I need some trick to get the modification date of a web page without:

- Open the related page in a browser.
- Download the page and compare its contents with a previous version.

Is it possible write/reading streams or using some knowledge absolutely
extraneous to my "applescript wisdom"?
