Yes, -20013 is an iTunes internal error. :\

But anyway, the fact that there is a limit, no matter exactly what it is, is
enough of an answer for me. So thanks, all.

I have never encountered a limit on items in a list before; in this case,
the list is the selection of iTunes tracks (some people have tens of
thousands of tracks). I have decided to go with A Ref To rather than try to
get the whole list into a variable.
