I agree, especially on the WMF format. I'm assuming that at some point the
Quark file needs to end up imported into a Windows-based program but could
it import an EPS, JPEG or TIFF file?
As for some thoughts on the workflow, I'd consider using Acrobat instead of
Illustrator and Photoshop. You can embed all the fonts into a PDF and then
export an EPS, TIFF, or JPEG in less steps. It will probably run quicker -
I've never found Illustrator or Photoshop all that speedy at converting
between various formats and having a pile of programs in the process is
going to greatly increase the complexity. Not only will you have to do a
heck of a lot of error-trapping for all the steps in the process, the chance
of one of the 3 to 5 programs crashing is probably pretty good! Kind of hard
to keep the process automated if the computer locks up. :-)
If you can eliminate the need for the Windows Metafile and stick with one of
the others, than you only need Quark and Acrobat and you can keep things
quite simple. Plus with Prefab Player at your disposal you can script
virtually anything...

Why do they need all these formats?
This seems on the surface to be something I see all too often... a
request
for a technical solution to what is, in reality, a workflow problem.
