Greetings,

Yep, in general I find it easier to tell the Valentina Application via Applescript than actually working directly with the application. I tend to think of Valentina as an engine that appears in a number of different cars (frameworks and plugins for development environments). The application has the hooks for applescript to control the engine.

It appears that it has only recently been "carbonized" and some of the demo
scripts need fixing... (old "choose file" syntax ). Executing demo scripts
from the script menu crash the application...

I would like to hear a few reviews before I spring for the licensed version.

I've been using it for about 9 months, though only the last couple with X. My thoughts are:

It is blindingly fast. I can import hundreds of thousands of records, create methods (equivalent to filemaker calculation fields, this is about the only thing I need to do within the application) and export the results, all without having time to go and make coffee.

It's a bit raw in places. The current version is (about) 1.8.10 for the full release and there is a lot of functionality planned to be added over the next few months. The development schedule seems very active, it feels like most weeks there is a new beta version.

I use it mostly for searching out large groups of data I then pass to excel for analysis via applescript. I also use it for establishing links between different data tables by trying different combinations of keys in rapid succession. For these tasks I haven't seen anything more promising, though for other jobs I use other database programs at the moment.

Given the demo version is fully functional (only time limited, and 10 minutes is a long time in Valentina) I'd suggest just playing with it for a while, you can decide how useful it is to you.
