Hello Steve:

I've been using Finder since the release of the
Public Beta. i have several crashes a week, which is more
than any other app i use regularly, except perhaps Classic.
i have absolutely no Mac OS 9 "retro" hacks on my system,
thank you.

I had a similar experience for a while after I installed OSX. I discovered one of the RAM SIMMS in my powerbook was u/s. Removing that stopped the problem instantly.

I can only suppose I didn't notice the bad RAM earlier (when I was using the old Mac OS) because life with that OS was one of such constant inconvenience one thought little of multiple crashes in a single day.

Now I leave OS 10.1.4 running 7 x 24. I love it.

DW
