Restart or something.
Do *what* now? In OS X!?! How retro!
I tried that, but tragically (and rather alarmingly) my beeps are gone. They
don't play through my sound card or the built in audio controller. And it's
not just when trying to beep from a script. The system beep is bollixed.
I've just done a quick check on a selection of things that go beep, like
trying to close an unsaved document, and nada. Something's gone rotten. It's
not a hardware problem, that much I'm sure of.
Darn it! This is very worrying. Like the Moon going missing from the sky.
And it's persisted through multiple restarts and disabling of login items,
etc.
I've only noticed this today, and upgrading to 10.1.4 is the last
significant change I made to my system, but I don't really think that's the
cause. (I'm looking rather sternly at a flaky, buggy piece of sh*t that's
been masquerading as my sound editor in X, Spark LE.)
I would have had some idea how to troubleshoot this in OS 9, but I'm all at
sea in X. Any suggestions welcomed.
Please contact me off-list if you have any clues as to how I should tackle
this issue.
TIA
Mr Tea
