I just ran into this. The Finder doesn't seem aware of changes made to a folder unless the folder is "updated." I'm not aware of an update command so I just opened the folder and changed it's view before I got it's contents. Then (because I don't really know what's going on) I reset the view every time I made a change to the folder. I had to leave the folder open while making changes or I would get a crash. Finally when everything was renamed and deleted I could close the folder. Pure voodoo.
