Here's an example of what happens when I work with lists from the finder. As you can see the name comes through fine, the error occurs when I remove the " Recovered" from the name and try to make an alias to another file. There is an "InvPaid.fp5" in the folder I'm pointing to but my file name has lost it's extension. I'll try some tests on files without extensions to see what happens.

get name of document file "InvPaid Recovered.fp5" of folder "GRL_InvSystem" of folder "GRL" of folder "Documents" of folder "john" of folder "Users" of startup disk
--> "InvPaid Recovered.fp5"
--> File John's HD:Users:john:Documents:GRL:GRL_InvSystem:InvPaid wasn't found.
