G'day JD

> Are you _sure_ you've tried 'read file pathname'

Yes, we've tried both file and alias objects (and, FWIW, I do have Jon's
installed)

I've been doing a _lot_ of internal testing, and talking offline with
Apple, and it appears it's not strictly an AS problem. We've completely
re-formatted and re-installed the server and the problem has gone away for
now. It's been an extremely unusual problem as the earlier versions of AS
always worked, and it could be made work reliably on the later systems by
changing the files extension.

Needless to say we will be doing significant testing before the Xserve goes
back into production and I'm seriously thinking of updating to OSX Server
10.2 before even considering it.

Cheers

kim
