The problem is probably made worse because the major IMAP servers (UW,
Cyrus, Courier, Netscape) very likely don't behave the same when asked to
do such things.
I only have direct experience using two of them (Courier, which we have in
service, and Netscape, which Apple uses/used for iTools mail). They don't
seem to behave the same for Mail.app (pre Jaguar)...I haven't driven the
mac.com server with anything else (I've driven ours with Mail.app,
Entourage, Netscape 4.x, Eudora and OE on the Mac side, and OE, Mozilla,
Pegasus and Eudora on the Windows side).
And I haven't scripted any of the above.
