folder action to fix permission problem?

  • Subject: folder action to fix permission problem?

I've been following a thread on the Server Admin list; it seems that a 10.2 client accessing a share point on a 10.1.x server creates folders WITHOUT the group write bit set.

Is it possible to attach a folder action to the shared folder, even though it reside on a 10.1.x server? If so, how would one fix the permissions on newly created folders within the shared folder?

Here is the relevant info on the problem:

Sorry to bother everbody on the list posting on this topic agin but it drives me wild:

Using the SAME Accounts from A: 10.1.5 Client and B: 10.2 Client I access a share point on a MOSXS 10.1.4 and create a new folder.

Folder from A has: drwxrwxr-x 2 swan bnew 24 Aug 27 20:39 swans_from10.1.5
Folder from B has: drwxr-xr-x 2 swan bnew 24 Aug 27 20:38 swans_from10.2

Notice that the folder created from Jaguar does not have write permissions for the group "bnew". This drives me crazy since my staff is extremly bothered not being able to for example delete a directory created by a colleague.

A couple of posts earlier a nice person from the list pointed me into the "sticky bit" direction. But even if that would be the case, it is impossible for me to change all the files to the correct privs every time.

Please help
