For anyone else following this thread, we also had an off-list
discussion last night [summarized here] in which I recommended simply
setting up OS X user accounts for each location and then deciding the
entire issue at log-in by selecting the appropriate account. That would
permit different application and network configurations, etc.
Appearantly the hassles involved with the different default file
locations were an issue, and I pointed out that using NetInfo Manager,
you could set up a group to share priviledges for various file
directories, or more simply, alias the appropriate folders (e.g. -
user/documents folder) into the other user's directory as their
document folder as well (thereby resolving any user's document folder
to point at the same folder). He didn't seem happy with the solution...
So, Chris and the other powers-that-be-at-Apple's-AS-department, here
is my #1 AppleScript Christmas wish: script the preference panes!
