Additional follow ups:
Setting up different users and logging in as appropriate, even with sharing
files, even with NetInfo, is still the same as as having 3 different
computers.
Consider: Email program (take pick your pick) have 3 accounts as it is,
would need to coordinate messages, contacts in all three logins.
E.g. with Entourage would have 3 different databases, which could be set up
to be accessed by each login, but that becomes 9 different identities.
Browser, 3 different sets of favorites/bookmarks, sets of logins/passwords
which would need to be exported/imported to keep synchronized.
Paul had suggestion of scripting all but the determination of the type of
connection.
That is, have menu pop up on start that would ask where it is at, user
chooses form menu and off it goes to set up computer and apps, etc.
This would work (except 1 little thing) and cover bulk of scripting.
On boot, have to wait for menu to come up, then wait for script to do its
thing. No biggy, but often, say at home, boot it up, then while it is
booting, make coffee, check phone messages, kick the cats, etc. Would have
in essence a 2 step start process.
I find it hard to believe, one cannot access type/method of connection. Is
there something in dev tools that would do it? Can it be done in terminal?
If one were writing a browser, ichat, help viewer, email program would not
one have to be able to determine how the computer is connected?
I mean, when I am at work (for example) entourage/system can9t be trying to
send/receive email through airport or if it attempts it, it gets
signal/message that airport is not working so it tries, LAN (or modem) etc.
Or do apps just send signals/info to all outlets and hope it goes thru?
