Properties not retained

Howdy,

I've noticed that with at least a couple of apps, when scripts are run from the application's script menu, the script does not retain properties. Is this the fault of the application or is it something deeper? One of the apps in question is Eudora.

I'm seeing this on OS X but it might also apply to pre-OS X systems as well. Does anyone have insight on this issue?
