That was it. I had moved Apple's utilities into an Apple Utilities
folder. So I now moved them back and

do shell script "/usr/sbin/AppleSystemProfiler | grep \"Ethernet
address\""

now works. However, it is kinda slow and I think that my ifconfig
version is the faster and more reliable way of getting the Ethernet
address (at least if you've moved your utilities :-)

set x to paragraph 2 of (do shell script "/sbin/ifconfig en0 ether")
