Problem with AppleScript in OSX

Hello:
My thanks to those who answered my initial question about scripting Mail.

However, I think my difficulties in OSX are the result of something more fundamentally wrong on my computer.
1 Most simple AS scripts produce an "NS..." error.
2 Most AS scripts to Mail cause the application to crash.
3 If I open ScriptEditor and chose 'Record', then menu "Go > Home" in the Finder, and open a folder, when I return to ScriptEditor and select 'Stop', the application locks up. The 'Controls' menu stays selected and the 'wristwatch' shows, indefinitely. I have to force quit ScriptEditor. This happens every time.

I'm running 10.1.2 on a Wallstreet 300 mH with 320 mB RAM. The only extras I've installed are "FruitMenu" and "TinkerTool".

Any ideas?

DW
