Even though I have a good grasp of Applescript I don't really have a

Resourcerer 1.2.4, which I am beginning to understand, but it has a
ghastly user interface, and I've just got hold of a hypercard stack
called 'Aete editor b3' which is REALLY old (1993), and makes no
reference to Applescript whatsoever.
I rather like Resourcerer, but I'll admit it takes some getting used
to. As Emmanuel said, DeRez and Rez are the final fallback -- they have
the advantage of working on a plain text file, so it's easy to compare
different revisions and use source control tools.
I'm not aware of any really good aete editors, but you might try asking
on the applescript-implementors list instead -- see

I read somewhere that aetes were obsolete 68k resources and that they
have been replaced with something else. This app is PPC only and
carbonized to run on OSX too which I imagine handles resources a bit
differently, am I barking up the wrong tree? Can an aete be painlessly
updated to whatever is more modern? How?
In fact, aete resources are still the best thing available. (Cocoa
applications have their own way of describing terminology, but it has
some limitations, so they'll often have an aete resource as well.)
Exactly where you put the resource is a bit different in a bundled
application, but it's still the same bits.
