Note: This message, originally posted some hours ago, was sent to the
list admin address by accident - Mr Paul Berkowitz has subsequently
posted a far more detailed argument in favour of the Microsoft options,
to which I say "what he said!".

This from Dave G at @719 on Wed, Jan 2, 2002

OE works great with AS for me - the ability to include scripts in
schedules is a terrific boon (and you CAN change those lame notification
sounds that make your mac sound like a PC - there's a free utility called
"Expression" for doing exactly this, available at <http://
www.soundsetcentral.com/software.php>)

None of this is relevant in OS X of course. If you are a migrating OE
user, Microsoft would prefer you to shell out for Office X and use
Entourage instead, and the feature set of Apple's own Mail app is
woefully, risibly limited. Recently, I've been playing with PowerMail in
X <http://www.ctmdev.com/>. It has a useful AS dictionary and reasonable
basket of features, but is not quite ready for serious 'power' use IMO.
For any serious email wrangling, I still rely on OS 9, AS 1.7 and OE.
