This is to say that the perfect email client is not out there.

That's correct - there's a single database file, or rather a Messages and a
Database file in OE and Entourage 2001, just a Database file in Entourage X.
However, in Entourage (both 2001 or X), you can drag any folder (mailbox) to
your hard disk, or do it from a script (save theFolder in fileSpecString),
and it is saved as an MBOX text file, just like that, in a second or two. It
even has a nice icon. You could do that every night from a script,
replacing the mbox files you had from the night before, and it will do it
very quickly - in next to no time. Even your 400 MB worth. You lose some of
the more exotic properties, like the 'links' to other Entourage objects in
the database, but so what? That's not what you care about here. (Or you
could do it by a much slower script saving every message with al its
properties, but I wouldn't recommend that.) Not in OE, just in Entourage,
the "not-quite-perfect" email client.
