A lot of this would go away if Apple released the AppleScript extensions for
OS upgrades into the developer program.
Not as part of the new system, but just as a separate item.
The reason I say this is that many users here would not partake in a
wholesale OS beta run (they have no reason as they are not developing apps),
but would gladly install and trial new beta extensions under 9.X.X
I think that the net outcome of this would be that we:
A/ avoid releasing under-tested software (very very few "real" developers
use AS, so it is largely untested by anyone other than Chris and others on
the AS team
B/ get some great feedback into the developer/bug report system where it can
attract the appropriate resource allocations
C/ get a very tight version of AppleScript with great cross-OS compatibility
TiB
(An alternative is to release AS into the Darwin program, but maybe that is
too much wishful thinking?) Certainly the only real "threat" would be that
someone uses the source to get OSA on Linux and windoze, but that would be a
fantastic Trojan horse for Apple, IMHO.)
