A year ago, I retired after working for twelve years in software QA (it
was my second profession, and second retirement); eight of which was at
Claris. (I got laid off in Jan 98, along with about half the company,
when they became FileMaker, Inc.)
A few weeks after I left Claris, I interviewed for an SQA position with
the Applescript team. (Chris might remember interviewing me.) I did not
get the job. I have enough conceit to believe that I was well qualified
for it, but that one of the other four applicants was even better
qualified.
If their standards now are what they were four years ago, I'm sure
they're doing an excellent job of QA within the time and personnel
constraints they have. I doubt that the problem is in either procedures
or the ability of the test engineers, but rather that there are not
enough engineers and/or the development cycle is too short for adequate
testing.

PS If anyone is interested: when I was at Claris, I worked on MacWrite
Pro (all versions), Claris Impact 2.0, Claris OfficeMail, and Claris
Emailer 1.1 through 2.0v3. I did all the Applescript testing of MacWrite
Pro, and about 90% of the Applescript testing of Emailer.
