OS 10.1.2 is perfectly stable. Who has told you otherwise? And
AppleScripting OS 10.1.2 is very good - the Finder is a LOT better than in
OS 7/8/9. Anything to do with windows or focus is slower than OS 9.2 or 9.1,
but many other things. including AppleScript execution, seem to be faster in
OS X. (9.2.1 windows and focus-changing are blazingly fast in all apps.)
What are you blaming on Aqua and the Dock, of all things? What's wrong with
the Dock, for goodness sake? Are you claiming the Dock causes instability?
It's hard to be without osaxen in X, but that's not exactly Apple's fault.
There are bumps, but the AppleScript team seems to be making every effort to
really upgrade AppleScript in X. We're going to have ourselves a really
professional tool. They won't be putting out a 1.6.1 just for you, they will
fix the bugs in 1.7/1.8. It's not unusual to get bugs when new features are
added to any application. Lots of features are being added, many under the
hood, Just stick where you're comfortable for now, and move to X when it's
settled down, which may not be for a while yet. I'm finding it very
enjoyable. (But avoid 9.2.2.)
