This is the first time I've heard anybody make a serious claim that AS
Studio is supposed to play the role that HyperCard once played. In fact, any
significant use of AS Studio requires an understanding of the basic
techniques and specific implementation details of the Cocoa frameworks. It's
real programming, though somewhat easier than Objective-C or Java
programming in Cocoa.
My take is that AS Studio is aimed at two constituencies: Cocoa developers
who want to add GUI scripting capability to their applications, and advanced
AppleScripters who want to implement a GUI in their AppleScript
applications. AS Studio AppleScripting is about a level above Cocoa
programming in the ease-of-use hierarchy; HyperCard is (was) several layers
higher than that. As you might expect from this, AS Studio allows you to
create much more customized and powerful applications than HyperCard's very
limited "card" metaphor.
But I guess we're more than a little off-topic, since this is a Mac OS 9
thread.
