Microsoft did not force Emailer's demise. When Claris restructured into
Filemaker, Inc., it kept all of the Filemaker family of software
(including Claris Home Page), and all the rest reverted to Apple. Apple
kept Clarisworks alive (changing its name to AppleWorks), and killed all
the rest (MacWrite Pro (which, actually, Claris killed a month or two
earlier), MacPaint, ClarisDraw, Claris Impact, Claris Organizer (which
they later sold to Palm), and any others whose names I may have
forgotten).
I'm fairly sure that Apple would sell Emailer to a third party if someone
were sufficiently interested in buying it, and if the source code had not
been lost. Jud may have a personal copy of the source code, but not for
2.0v3, which was developed after he left Claris.
