Ditto the above (running a Classic client in X with no great bother).
Mailsmith 1.1.8. Not free but extremely well priced especially if you already own BBEdit which
everybody does, right?
And Mailsmiths' scriptabilty has been well-documented here and elsewhere fully enough (I have
scripts that worked in OS 8.6 that still work in Classic in 10.1.2).
