I think there is no such number as you're looking for. Re-formatting the
hard disk (maybe even rebuilding the desktop, I don't know) - let alone
changing the disk - erases the serial number (in Classic). The Ethernet id
number is pretty unique, but it can be overriden by a resource (in Classic).

If there was such a unique number, most probably the dongle keys would not
exist.

We use dongle keys.
