USB Device Detection and Alarm

I help out at a museum that's soon to get an eMac that will be open to the public as part of one of its displays. It will primarily be running OS X and MS Internet Explorer.

Is it possible to have some sort of a stay-open AppleScript that monitors the USB devices and which can cause the eMac to emit a loud, shrill sound if someone decides to disconnect the mouse or keyboard? It is not beyond the realm of possibility that someone will try to make off with either or both.

Along those same lines, is it possible to prevent someone from putting it to sleep? Alternately, can sleep mode be detected in some way and immediately force a wake-up?
