These two replies seem contradictory.
I think Shane was on about the fact that AppleScripts cannot run without a user logged in, which is the same for Mac OS X and Server, since AS needs access to the WindowServer, which is only available to user processes, not cron or web processes.
However, if you run your XServe with a user logged in, then you should be fine.
