force quit a FoxPro app from AppleScript?

  • Subject: force quit a FoxPro app from AppleScript?

Hello all,

I am using AppleScript and PreFab Player to script a custom FoxPro app running on Mac OS 8.6 to perform required maintenance unattended overnight.

(Yes, it would be easier to just change the FoxPro source, but I don't have access to it. The company which owns the product is incompetent and would charge too much to make the necessary changes. And hopefully, within a year and a half the product will be replaced.)

I have managed to work around the fact that FoxPro doesn't use standard dialog boxes, standard windows, or standard menus, but because the script will be running unattended, I would like to be able to have the script quit the FoxPro app in case of errors.

The FoxPro app does not respond to the quit event.

Telling the Finder to restart will not work because the FoxPro app will not respond to the quit event.

I can't just have PreFab Player select "Exit" from the "File" menu (did I mention that FoxPro doesn't use standard menus?), because in an error situation the menu may not be enabled.

Having PreFab Player type option+command+escape in the FoxPro app does nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Peter
