Since the post was not answered, I'll bring my 0.02 euro FWIW.
(that's more than 2 cents, but who counts.)
AppleScript 1.8.3 is much better than 1.7 & 1.8.2. Though, there are still
things which won't work so, no, your scripts won't necessarily work as
before. In particular the "name" of the "info for" is now styled text, and
does not coerce easily into text (there are some workarounds).
Also, I've observerd hard crashes (Pismo, OS 9.2.2) under 1.8.3 while
manipulating files with names longer than 31 characters, but cannot be sure
whether it's "info for", "alias", or some Finder's command which is
responsible for the crash.
Finally, since AS 1.8.3 does not really handle gracefully the new OS X
names, and except for the praiseworthy task of testing, I'm not sure why we
should prefer 1.8.3 to 1.6. Personally, if I keep my OS 9 machine still
several months, I shall probably downgrade again to 1.6.
Again, I am not an authority of any kind, and I may be missing some
important point.
