Shell script installer? Or primer?
Shell script installer? Or primer?

I've been following all the discussions about shell scripting such as using
the "sudo" command and I'm wondering if something is possible using
AppleScript.
We are starting to roll out a VPN here and the Cisco VPN client requires
typing in several commands in the Terminal. First the user has to "su" to
become root. Then they have to change directories and run the command to
install the client.
Is any/all or this possible using AppleScript or am I wasting my time trying
to figure it out. I don't have a Unix background so my knowledge of the
output from these types of commands is limited at best. I have done several
AppleScript apps and run about 7 or 8 scripts on my lab machines so I am
familiar with AS. It sure would be nice to be able to give our users an
AppleScript installer that would keep them out of the terminal.
Second question would be is there any type of primer on using AppleScript
and shell scripts? For instance, if I do a shell script that does "su" how
can I tell if I'm really logged in as root now other than opening a terminal
window?
Thanks,
