AppleScript 1.8.3 breaks recording in MailSmith?

I find myself unable to record anything in MS after the AppleScript 1.8.3 update.
Trying to record in MailSmith 1.5.3, both from within MS and using Script Debugger 3.03.
TiBook, OS X 10.1.5, all the latest patches etc.
It worked fine in AScript 1.8.2 beta, and recording still works in BBEdit 6.5.2...
Can anyone confirm this?
