You're just so out-of-date, Arthur. ;-) We've known since December (or was
it November?) that 1.7 is horrible in all those ways. It was evidently
because the AS team was rushed by "powers above" to get certain changes done
in time for the advertised release of AS Studio and the San Francisco
MacWorld deadlines of Dec 31 and Jan 6 respectively.
The reason why it has taken so long for a non-beta update to be released is
equally obviously that this time they want to nail every single bug they
possibly can. This is going to be the "final" AS for OS 9.x, and has also
been tuned up with the latest, improved CarbonLib. they really want to get
it right. That should be applauded. Just be patient a little while longer,
and you'll be able to tell your users to update to AS 1.8.3 or 1.9 and/or OS
9.2.3 or 9.3. Whatever the numbers are going to be, it will be worth the
wait.
