Although I was not as accurate in my description as I should have been, I
did get an answer to the question:

> I am looking for a script that on startup of 9 would unmount the OS X

A couple of people mentioned using Drive Setup to unmount the partition.
However, that option did not seem to be available when I activated Drive
Setup, and I did not want to really mess up the disk.

Someone suggested "Put away" but the current Applescript does not have it in
its dictionary, and, although it is a File option under OS 9, it would not
record in Applescript.

However, "expel disk" using Akua Sweets' scripting additions DID work, and
we can now go from there.

I thank all who answered.
