syntax changes

As I am still learning AS (and it appears that I have a long way to go)
there are a couple of questions I would like to ask the group.
1. Why does the syntax at times, want to change from something like "do
script" to +event miscdosc;, or "copy" to +event misccopy;? OSX (10.1.5),
Script Editor 1.7 and AS 1.8.3.
2. I have a script working presently on an older workstation running OS 9.1,
Script Editor 1.5.5 and AS 1.5.5 which when a folder of 1-9 jpeg images are
dropped on it, each image is opened and converted by Photoshop and then a
Quark page is created and the images are placed on the page and text from an
assigned data file is imported to finally create to output document. In an
attempt to move this over to the OSX workstation I encountered the problems
addressed in the first part. Is it worth it to continue with this or should
I upgrade first?
