I'm pretty sure it was impossible to pass alias files to a droplet in OS9 but has it been repaired in OS neXt?
Booting up this afternoon I got a message about upgrading to 10.2.2. With a whole lot of trepidation i clicked the OK button. Dragged and dropped items now generate AppleScript aliases to the alias files! It's just the way I want it.
Now any good scientist would go back and reproduce the original effect just to be sure something else didn't change. I have no idea how to do that now. I wonder if the behavior will be the same tomorrow. Wouldn't it be nice to have access to some Apple documentation that lists the bug fixes in an inclusive manner?
With regard to using the Finder selection in spite of the drag and drop operation: A single file that is dragged and dropped in one continuous motion does not show up as a finder selection at all. One sees the selected items as they were before the mouse down occurred. If you click to get the items selected and then drag them it's OK but I don't want to write the user instructions explaining that.

Applescript syntax is like English spelling:
Roughly, but not thoroughly, thought through.
