Speakable Items
Speakable Items

Hey everyone. SI question here for an SI convert.
I've written a few simple scripts for various Finder and Internet Explorer
tasks. They all run properly when double clicked, that's not the problem.
Problem: none of them are ever recognized by name when spoken.
When I ask "show me what to say", they ARE listed under Finder and Internet
Explorer, as expected, in the Application Speakable Items commands list
I have:
a) removed the Finder and Internet Explorer foldesr from the Speakable
Items:Application Speakable Items: folder
b) re-made both items speakable again (via voice command "make this
application speakable", with an okay result "done" and new folders being
created in the appropriate place (SI:ASI:)
c) moved my scripts back into those new folders and that still hasn't
helped.
Even the Apple shipped commands in those folders do not get recognized. (The
ones like "empty the trash" or "move this to the trash".)
I've read the Help docs but found nothing to lead me to any answers.
If you've got any ideas, that would be swell.
(I've not used SI all that long, but I am enjoying the hands-free-dom.)
Thanks,
Gary
p.s.
Maybe I am not issuing the voice commands properly when items are in the
nested Application Speakable Items folder.
AppleHelp says that "any item in an application folder will be speakable in
that application". It does not say that an alternate command needs to be
issued beyond what the user preferences are.
For me, I just say "mac <command>". That works on everything in the root
level of the SI folder. It does not work on any item in the SI:ASI:<app>
folders.
