I often copy/paste groups of files' names for pasting into text files.
In OS 9, they would paste in according to their original order in the Finder.
However, in X, their order seems to be arbitrarily mixed up.

So, if I have a list of files like:

01 Blah-blah
02 Yadda-yadda
03 Kung
04 Foo

It might actually paste into a text doc like

01 Blah-blah
03 Kung
04 Foo
02 Yadda-yadda

I could script the copy/paste process, but it seems silly to have to enlist AS
to order my file names numerically. Plus, I don't think the recent "sort"
function will do this, will it?

I checked this and, indeed, the order of the pasted list just seems arbitrary.

Yet I'm not sure I understand your question: I don't understand what "recent" sort you're refering to, nor why it wouldn't sort the list .
