Greetings again list,
I have sorted out the first problem with my first AppleScript attempt
... by scripting to another terminal program! The old DataComet
(www.databeast.com; no I'm not affiliated with them in any way) allows
me to pass text through to the process at the other side (using a SEND
command) and I've discovered how to send function keys as well (with an
EXECUTE command). This solves all my problems and allows me to proceed
with confidence. (Apple listening? One vote for SEND and EXECUTE script
commands for Terminal!)
Now I want to create a small window which will prompt the user for a
few values that will be used in the script. I remembered walking
(crawling?) through a neat tutorial a few months back called Watson,
which was a script which added functionality to the Mail program that I
think now comes with Jaguar, namely searching for text across multiple
mailboxes. It was a large tutorial which covered almost anything
someone would want to try to do with a script project in Project
Builder.
I want to look it over again! OK, I had it on my HD when I did it, so I
looked through the docs in PB. No luck, at least I can't seem to find
it (I've only been looking for 2 hours now), probably because I did it
BEFORE converting to the kitty. Next thought was to search the web,
thinking it couldn't have been obliterated already. No luck there
either ...
Let's say I just want a good tutorial on developing a user interface
through PB for an AppleScript project. Any ideas where to go? (Please
don't just tell me to ask the PB list, it's an AppleScript project I'm
trying to learn/develop) Best would be if I could find the Watson
tutorial again, since I did it a few months back and have some vague
familiarity with it (never got it to work, I got tied up in other
projects before I could figure out what was different between my
project and the tutorial, which did work).
