Telling Finder compiles but fails on execution as before.
Enclosing the System Event thing in using terms from is not effective.
It seems like I need to get the raw events, without them
re-appearing in my script before I re-compile, but I have found no
method so far.
I have now installed AS 1.8.3 in OS 9 and tried
tell app "Finder" to get processes
using both Script Editor 1.8.3(OS 9) and 1.6(OS 9)
In both cases, running in Classic, I just get the beachball. I did
get it working once after booting into OS 9.2.2, but I can't be
bothered to do it again to find out which combination did work, not
only because I've spent too much time on it already but because I
rarely boot into OS 9.
It's a very annoying bug.
If you want to get the raw events, then you can find the good
combination and get the events from Capture AE, or use the
EightyLister osax. Capture AE works fine in Classic with a Classic
Script Editor, but even better, use Smile and do copy/translate.
By Classic, I mean, of course, OS 9 running within OS 10.2.1
