I should think so too! What a lot of fuss.

Switch to Windows 95? If this doesn't work:
tell app "Finder" to get processes
then you must have something very wrong in your set-up.

Your answers seem to indicate that you think I don't know at all what
I am doing(?)
First of all, the 10.2.1 machine is precisely newly freshly
cleanly installed!! A flawless install. The machine itself is 3
months old.
Secondly, we are speaking about a classic script app here! Your
suggestions above only work natively in 10.2. Have you tried it
yourself in classic? I guess not. Telling System Events only yields
"Can't get application's event dictionary" if done from classic.
Telling Finder compiles but fails on execution as before.
Enclosing the System Event thing in using terms from is not effective.
It seems like I need to get the raw events, without them re-appearing
in my script before I re-compile, but I have found no method so far.
