do shell script "top"
returns the error of "Error opening Terminal: unknown"?
If you know enough to type "top" then you should certainly be aware of
man
and
man -k (oops - apropos)
I'm a VMS snob (excellent help facility for its day) and always thought
the Unix world with only "man" was deficient. Of course 20 some years
of people working in an OS is probably enough to get decent
documentation near at hand ;-)
The man pages are imperative if you are going to use the Unix
environment to enhance your Macintosh environment...(we used to say the
source code was imperative...but I doubt that the majority of the
readers of this list would really want to start reading C code or
standard shell scripts to figure out what they really need to do ;-)
Anyone remember when "man" was a shell script?
8)
p.s. of course anyone who names their macro package "an" for building
manual pages in nroff really should be slapped up side the head...nroff
-man...ha!
