I'm running AS 1.9 under OS 10.1.5 with no problems.
The release notes say AS 1.9 requires Mac OS X 10.2. You won't know whether
you're safe until the first problem occurs.
By the way, I hope you didn't really send him AS 1.9 unsolicited. There are
several good reasons why you shouldn't do something like that:
1. You don't know what his Internet connection speed is, nor how important
it is for him to keep his connection clear for other messages. Somebody
recently sent me a file I hadn't asked for, and it tied up my modem for an
hour -- at a time when it was crucial that I receive certain expected
messages as soon as possible. You can bet I gave that intermeddler a lecture
(for all the good it will do).
2. Even if AS 1.9 will work reliably with Mac OS X 10.1.5 (which I doubt),
it won't work reliably without Standard Additions 1.9, nor probably without
Script Editor 1.9. If you sent him the AppleScript component only, you sent
him something doubly or triply unusable.
3. You violated Apple's copyright and your Mac OS X 10.2 license.
